Description:
This six-hour, highly experiential workshop introduces Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a practical, front-line approach for substance use and co-occurring disorders. The focus is on learning ACT by doing it—brief demos, live practice, and structured role-plays that mirror real clinical moments involving cravings, ambivalence, shame, trauma, and systemic pressures. Participants will work with the six core ACT processes and leave with concrete tools that plug into existing approaches like motivational interviewing, CBT, and harm reduction in individual, group, and peer-delivered services.
Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
Describe the ACT model of psychological flexibility and how it complements common SUD approaches (e.g., MI, CBT, harm reduction).
